ShareMyCab allows taxi travelers to share cab rides.
They can save new cab rides or browse ones that match their trip, contact each other, and arrange to meet.

Why would you share cab rides ???

For plenty of reasons !

• Be Green !!
  For instance, there are over 13,000 yellow cabs in NYC alone, another 40,000 other “for-hire” cars, over 16,000 in Paris, about 20,000 “Black Cabs” in London … In NYC, they carry over 250 million passengers a year on over 800 millions miles !
  The results are noise, traffic, congestion, pollution, … If two persons went the same way, why not take one cab instead of two ?
• Save $$$
  Save money, simply. JFK Airport to Manhattan: about $60. CDG -> Paris: about 60€ (= $90). Heathrow to central London: £50 to £60 (= $100 to $120).
  Take your cab with another person: half price. With a third one: 30%.
  With ShareMyCab.net, you can arrange in advance for your ride !
• Avoid the queue !!
  In some cities, people are lucky: raise your arm and a cab will stop in the next 10 seconds (yes, Newyorkers, I’m speaking about you). In others, grabbing a cab can be more difficult than Survivor: The Amazon (yes, Parisians, my heart is with you).

How can I use ShareMyCab.net ?

ShareMyCab.net is simple to use: save a cab ride, or browse rides on specific locations.
To make things simple, you can save two types of rides:

• From or To an airports,
• From the city to the city.

For each trip that you save you’ll indicate a frequency (once, daily, weekly, …), the date of the next trip and an approximate timing.

You’ll also give a name, as meaningful as possible, to allow people to clearly understand where you’re going and from where (JFK to East Village, Midtown to Financial District, Heathrow to Picadilly, 9eme arrondissement a Bastille, …).

That’s it !

Who created ShareMyCab.net and why ???

Me, Laurent Kretz, on my free time.
Why ? Because over the last year, each time I came back from JFK to my apartment in East Village, I took a cab – 40mn vs 1h30 with the subway: when you’re tired, it counts !
However, it’s expensive and I always tried to share it with someone.
So he figured:

• I must not be the only one in this situation,
• It would be so much easier to organize in advance, instead of ad hoc at the taxi station,
• I could use some saving …………. )

So there you are, a month later (August 2008), ShareMyCab.net is out !
